Fishing Report

Get out the magnets- the Steelhead are here!

Salmon River

The Steelhead fishing has been very good here around Challis for the last few weeks, with reports of fish being caught from Salmon to Stanley. A fisherman reported just today that he caught a big one up river from Challis this morning on a silver spoon. Another fisherman tells us he limited out this morning around Challis using shrimp and a gold corky. Fly fishers are reporting success nymphing small patterns such as tiny Glo Bugs and Hot Butt Skunks. Swinging streamers such as Egg Sucking Leeches or Strip Teasers will also work.   The river condition is excellent, and the forecast looks like it should stay that way for the next week.

Check out Idaho Fish and Game website for weekly harvest reports.

The Big Lost River

With warmer temperatures, the Big Lost should be getting close to amazing. Midges and Baetis can be found in March, along with some of the best fishing of the year. Look for hatches later in the day, and small nymph and dry Midge patterns work well.
