Salmon River Fishing Report 03/28/2023
Steelhead fishing improved this past week as more fish began showing up. Pulling plugs seems to be the most productive, followed by fishing with shrimp or roe. A few fish have been caught using spoons and spinners fished slowly . If you want to fish with flies use darker colors with purple, blue or black in them. With the the colder water the fish are not chasing the lures or flies so you basically have to present something right in front of them. The water temperatures around Stanley have been in the the low 30’s with the water warming to the high 30’s around North Fork. The water flows at Salmon last week was 963cfs, which is 80% of average for this time of year. The ice on the river has been breaking up slowing but we still have some ice jams above Challis in spots.
