Salmon fishing on the Salmon River has been quite productive due the river flows dropping and the river clearing.clearing. As of yesterday (July 3rd) approximately 207 fish had been caught. Based on these catch rates, Fish and Game is predicting that we will hit our harvest share this weekend, so the section of fishery, from the hwy 93 bridge south of Challis upstream to Sawtooth hatchery, will close Saturday night 7/7/18 at the end of fishing hours (10:00pm).
The river section of the Salmon River from Ellis (mouth of the Pahsimeroi) downstream approximately 6.5 miles to the Colston Corner boat ramp will open to Chinook angling on Saturday 7/7/18 at 5:30 am. Harvest is expected to be about 300 fish.
There is still time to get out and catch a Salmon, so if you have time you need to get out. With the river dropping and warmer temperatures expected next week, catch rates are probably going to increase. In the meantime, we hope you have a great 4th of July!
