Steelhead fishing remained about the same this past week with a some fish being caught from Challis toward Salmon and on down below North Fork. A few anglers are catching a fish or two a day, but it’s been tough. The best fishing has still been below North Fork. The Pahsimeroi Hatchery has about 40 fish and the Sawtooth reported two fish. With the water cold and low, the steelhead have been taking their time getting up river. Use Gold, copper and green spoons and spinners fished slowly for spin fishing. Standard roe and shrimp for bait. A few fish have been caught on darker flies tied in blue, black or purple. There are fish around, you are just going to have to work a little harder. Temperatures are supposed to start increasing to the high 40’s by the weekend.
