Salmon River Fishing Report

This past week there were steelhead caught on the Salmon River. Most of the fishing has been between the Pahsimeroi River and the town Salmon. There have also been some fish caught above Challis but from the bank. Fish have also been caught north of Salmon, but the big ice jam starts about Bobcat Gulch. River flows are at 567 cf, but I expect that to increase with the warmer weather that is coming. The water was slightly off color today but definitely fishable. Boat ramps at McKimm Ck, Colston and Kilpatrick are open, Cotton wood is not. At Deer Gulch you would have to slide your boat in. All the other upper accesses have ice jams in between so you will not be able to float yet, but you can still fish from the bank. Fisherman checked by F&G between the Lemhi and Ellis averaged 24hrs per fish caught. The ice is receding every day so that’s a good thing. The river should clear itself of ice soon.
