Steelhead fishing on the Salmon River continues to improve around Challis. Water clarity is great right now weather with several feet of visibility. Steelhead are spread from Salmon to Stanley. As of Sunday the Pahsimeroi Hatchery had 1325 adult Steelhead and on 4/1 the Sawtooth Hatchery had 250 steelhead. Fish are being caught on a wide variety of flies. Try swinging Bunnybugs, purple and black Chrome Classics, ping, orange or chartreuse Egg Sucking Leeches, Steelhead Hammers,Hot But Stones for flies.Dead drifting egg patterns are starting to work also, though I have heard no reports of fish on redds yet.
Spoons are still doing well in hammered brass, copper and gold. Shrimp and Roe for bait.
