Fishing for Steelhead on the Salmon River has slowed down around Challis but its still possible to pick up some fish, and should improve with the cooler temperatures last night and the forecast for even colder nighttime temperatures(18-25) the next 10 to 12 days. The Salmon River is a little clearer today with about 15″ of clarity, and should clear up even more. River flows around Clayton peaked to 1600 cfs (4.1ft) but is currently dropping.
For flyfishing on the Salmon River, Stoneflies, Hot Butt Stones, and egg patterns like the Scrambled Eggs, Phsyco Spawn, or Meg-A- Eggs are a good bet. Also, the Skykomish Sunrise , Polar Shrimp and the Salmon Candy have been working. I would also try swinging some flies since the fish are definitely moving and would still suggest the Chrome Candy, Poker Face, Little Eddy, General Practioner , purple/pink Lead Eyed Rabbit Leech, Under Taker and the Green Butt Skunk.
