Salmon River Steelhead Fishing Report

Steelhead fishing on the Salmon River has improved a little the past few days. There have been a few fish caught above town, but most of the anglers are fishing below Challis and towards Salmon and North Fork.  There are 20 fish in the Ellis hatchery this morning, with just a few in each day. Fishing should be improving over the next week. Warmer temperatures are predicted  through the next week which should warm the river up a couple of degrees and make the fish more active.

Fly fisherman are using spey flies , large and small stonefly nymphs, bunny bugs and egg sucking leeches.

Conventional gear try using gold, hammered brass , green or blue spoons, and Flying C’s and Blue Foxes in assorted colors.
