Spring Time Fishing in Central Idaho

is not very predictable…

Salmon River

There are still steelhead being caught upriver, however the river is rising and getting a little bit murky and continued warm weather will cause it to rise even more. The season goes until April 30. If the river gets too high to fish, there are still plenty of good fishing opportunities in the area. Salmon River tributaries are open for catch-and-release trout fishing right now, and will open for general trout limit on Memorial Day weekend. Tribs are always fun to fish as there are plenty of hungry little rainbows and cutthroat to catch, and if you skate a small stimulator along the surface you will have way too much fun.

Mosquito Flat Reservoir

We have heard that it is possible to get to Mosquito Flat, so a nice day at the lake may be in order. Nightcrawlers, Power Bait, small spinners or stripping black wooly buggers should produce a bag limit.

The Big Lost River

The spawning is just about over, and river flows are hanging around 90 cfs. Stealthy fishing with a variety of baetis and midge patterns should make for a productive day.
