Fishing Report

Cold Steel

The steelhead are here, but they are a bit chilly. Temperatures have been cold, causing the river to slush up at night. The slush is usually gone by noon, especially down below the Pahsimeroi. It looks like a slight warming trend will occur through the week which can only improve the fishing. We’re starting to see more fishermen show up and they say they are catching fish (this fisherman/writer has just been donating spoons to the river), with bait and spoons being the most common method.  It’s still early enough to be wanting to use drifted streamers, although the egg fly bite will get hot pretty quickly.

Ice fishing on Mackay reservoir is still occurring, but may not last much longer if warms up. Jigging small spoons with a waxworm is the way to go for kokanee.
